Ontario government commits $9M towards responsible gambling

The government of Ontario has decided to push the amount of $9 million towards restructuring the processes related to responsible gambling. The commitment is for the next three years, as it is their absolute priority.

The declaration regarding the funding towards the Responsible Internet Gambling Fund (RIGF) was made during the Responsible Gambling Council’s yearly Discovery Conference. As per the information, it will be backing the structuring of learning modules meant for the players of Ontario. Further to that, there will be the involvement of consumer learning programs, along with reaching out to the community and connecting with community members. The effort will involve the bettors and players connecting more with responsible gambling measures.

As per the RGC, the extra funds are welcome to effectively promote consumer learning initiatives related to its prioritized responsible gambling scenario.

According to the CEO of RGC, Shelly White, Ontario has always been extremely sensitive towards responsible gaming, and this promised fund will help them push the envelope even further. Safeguarding the interests of the bettors is the top order of the day.

In her opinion, a lot more needs to be done in correctly educating the gamers regarding the threat aspects that come with irresponsible gambling and how it is detrimental, not only for themselves but their entire families. The funds received will help formulate better strategies and more effective promotional campaigns related to responsible gaming. The idea is that the entire exercise should trickle down to the last of the bettors impactfully.

The 4th of April is the second anniversary of Ontario’s regulated online wagering market, and the concerned authorities feel a lot has been done to educate gamers on responsible gaming. However, they also agree that a lot more is on the anvil.

In November 2023, the Canadian Gaming Association introduced a fresh program named the CGA Commitment and Strategy to Promote Player Health and Wellbeing. The idea was to create an advisory for responsible gambling and a better format for advertising and promotional activities.

From Canadian gambling news, it is found that recently iGaming Ontario reached out officially for assistance in formulating a more effective solution related to gaming in the form of applications to be sent by parties wanting to contribute. The applications are related to a SaaS project enabling sports wagerers to self-deny visiting regulated websites. The applications will be accepted till the 24th of April.

Of late, the council divulged that Caesars Sportsbook has received the award for RG Check accreditation, meaning that the operator has set a benchmark regarding responsible gambling policies.
